Here’s a post for today, my oc the gentlemen scarecrow. GS lives in an “apartment” with crystal, devin, jezi, eric, matt, and maddie
One day ill get them all in one group with more informatiiioonnn
You know what, it’s great to recognize and celebrate what a diverse group of people work for Rooster Teeth. It really is.
As long as we’re not using that to rationalize fucked-up content. We’re not, right?
I finally saw that post that’s going around, and while I can appreciate the text of it, it’s the subtext that concerns me and I can easily foresee this kind of thing getting used as a bludgeon for criticisms that are about content, not staffing. If it isn’t already.
Just so we’re clear:
- Being gay/bi/pan doesn’t mean you can’t do something racist.
- Being female doesn’t meant you can’t say something homophobic.
- Being a person of color doesn’t mean you can’t write something sexist.
- And so forth.
To put a finer point on it, Lindsay Tuggey working for Achievement Hunter doesn’t magically make them exempt from any and all -ism related criticism. Monty Oum being the creator of RWBY does not exempt RWBY from criticism. Monty and Lindsay are not human shields. Rooster Teeth’s LGBTQ staffers are not human shields.
I could go on but I think you get the point.
It’s also worth noting who actually writes content for Rooster Teeth.
Red vs. Blue is written by Burnie Burns and Miles Luna. Both are white men and please correct me if they aren’t both straight. This shows in the content. It shows in the gender ratios, it shows in the way women have been written in the series, it shows in the overwhelming heteronormativity except when a man with feminine traits is used as a walking punchline, and it shows in the Incredible Whiteness of Project Freelancer showcasing a particular fixation with blonde people. That there are women and people of color and LGBTQ people working on the show in various capacities does not negate or magically justify the content the writers write. This shouldn’t have to be said.
RWBY is written by Monty Oum, Miles Luna, and Kerry Shawcross, all of whom are male. Fans holding up RWBY as a shining example of RT’s inclusiveness somehow never mention the fact that this “show about girls!” has no female writers and do not seem to appreciate the irony. Nevertheless, it shows in the content. It shows in the fact that a male side character’s subplot dominated half the first season, taking screen time that could’ve furthered the girls’ character development and relationships.
It is wonderful that Rooster Teeth employs a diverse and inclusive staff but that inclusiveness does not extend to their content and I think it’s worth questioning why it doesn’t, and why we, as fans, don’t even really expect it to.
Yes. Thank you. This post is extremely important and fandom needs to step up and remember these things.
Wow I haven’t posted in forever hehehe heh
Okay picture the most stoic character you know
Now picture them on the “It’s a Small World” ride at Disneyland while wearing Mickey Mouse ears and sitting next to the most happy-go-lucky character you know
my hoodies - jason todd (red hood)
you can probably tell we LOVE fancy collars haha TuT it was suposed to be made just for fun but since supplies for this one are much easier to get we thought it can make up to all of people who were too late to get our other red hood sweater (i’m still suprised how many people ask about them ;;) ♥ with an additional fuzzy layer inside it’s much warmer than our other hoodies! i’m always torn between black and very dark gray as a base color for all things jason todd so i’ve decided to go for the second option this time :D
just as nightwing’s, it’s up here with one small and one medium ready to go!
